Yercaud is a beautiful hill station, which is in Salem District of Tamil Nadu, India. The hill station falls under the Shevaroy Range of hills of Eastern Ghats. Yercaud means Lake Forest, the name signifying the Lake of this breathtaking hill station that is surrounded with forest. Yercaud is said to be the topmost hill station during summer, mostly for the South People, due to its altitude of 1515 m. The hill station is covered with a plantation that includes coffee, pears, and apples etc. Also, tea can be found growing in few parts of the high elevations of the region; the best part is covered with a dense evergreen forest of sandalwood, teak and silver oaks. The hill station with its picturesque views and cool environment also has some very interesting places to visit and explore.  Emerald Lake, Anna Park, Lady's Seat, Shevaroy Temple, Small Lake, Bear's Point, Pagoda Point, Killiyur Falls, and Botanical Garden in Yercaud is the most famous attraction centers among tourist. Yercaud has a magical charm that attracts tourist from all over the country and even a foreign tourist who visits India. The stunning and panoramic views with lush green lawns give out a soothing and tranquil experience. Yercaud was founded and developed during the British reign when Stone aged implements in an ancient shrine were found in the Shevaroy Hill Ranges. David Cockburn is called the ‘Father of Yercaud’ for developing this countryside and introducing the cultivation of Coffee and other plantations. The forests of Yercaud is ripe with some mild species of wild animals that includes foxes, bison, deer, mongoose, kites, sparrows, and swallows etc. Yercaud celebrates a summer festival in the month of May which includes a 7 days exhibition show of flowers, boating races, a village fair, and dog shows.

Being said to be one of the best tourist attraction places in Tamil Nadu, Yercaud is conveniently connected with the rest of the state and few other South Indian Regions.

The nearest Airport to Yercaud is Salem with a distance of 38 km, another airport is the Coimbatore Airport which falls in a distance of 152 km. Both of the airports get regular flights and are well connected with major cities of the country.

How to Reach by Train

The closest major Railway Station is the Salem Railway Station in a distance of 22 km from Yercaud while Danishpet Railway Station is also accessible for traveling to Yercaud. The station is connected with lines from major cities of South India and other cities.

How to Reach by Bus

The Yercaud Bus Station in the town center is connected with every neighboring city of Yercaud. The Tamil Nadu State Transport Buses and few Private Buses have regular services from different cities of Tamil Nadu to reach Yercaud.

Yercaud is connected to Bangalore City with NH 48 and NH 44, it’s a 5-hour long journey in a well-maintained road viewing the beautiful landscape of the countryside.

Yercaud Itinerary

Day 1: Landing in Salem Airport, start the drive in a hired cab through the scenic Western Ghats towards Yercaud. Get checked in on your pre-book hotel for the abode of your night. Finish your lunch and start your trip by visiting the Killiyur Falls to see the cascading waterfalls, spending an hour there go to Lady’s Seat for the panoramic view. Later get back to the city and lazed the afternoon visiting the Yercaud Lake and boating in it. Finish your day by dinning a local cuisine.

Day 2: Getting an early breakfast, plan your first destination to the Pagoda View Point, to get the early morning hill view, spend few worthwhile minutes more in the area and visit the Ann Park and Orchidarium to see the mesmerizing flowers in its full bloom. Taking a quick lunch, leave for exploring the Bear’s Cave and the Shevaroy Temple as the last retreat of your trip. Get back early to your hotel and check out to take the short drive back to Salem for boarding your flight back to home
