The Ashoka pillar

#1 of 2 things to do in Vaishali

It is known to history that King Ashoka is a big devotee of Lord Buddha. He became a great follower of Buddhism after the massacre of Kalinga and decided to build the Ashoka Pillar in the same place where once Lord Buddha decided to fall back in his last few days. The biggest attraction of this place is the long pillar with the face of a lion etched and carved on a brick that faces north. It is believed that Lord Buddha took his final voyage in that direction. The pond near the stupa is called Ramkund. The brick stupa along with the pond makes it an ideal place for Buddhists.
