Shakti Temple

#5 of 6 things to do in Uttarkashi

Located near to the Bhagirathi river at a distance of 1.3 kms from the town of Uttarkashi, the Shakti temple is one of the most revered destinations situated closer to Vishwanath temple.  The temple is known for its famous Trishul, which is 6 m high with about 90 cm circumference at its bottom. It is believed that the upper and the lower portion of the Trishul are made of iron and copper. According to the Hindu beliefs, this Trishul was used by goddess Durga to kill demons. The myth says that if you try to push the Trishul with all your strength the effort will be in vain. But once you try to move it with one finger, it will move. The temple with its whole mystery wrapped around the legends is visited by a sheer number of devotees every day.
