City Palace

#0 of 12 things to do in Udaipur

Believed to be Rajasthan's largest royal complex, it indeed is true. Located on the banks of Lake Pichola, The magnificent palace was built in the year 1559 by Maharana Uday Singh and served as the main seat of power. It was the residence as well as the administration centre of the Maharanas. It took around 400 years to complete, and with the years, the palace only saw major developments, which eventually resulted in adding up to its magnificence! It is the true symbol of Rajasthan. If there was just one place or thing to be selected to show the spirit of Rajasthan, there is absolutely no doubt that the City Palace of Udaipur would be selected.

What adds to its charm and versatility is the contrasting backdrop of the beautiful Lake Pichola. Built atop a hill, in a fusion of the Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles, it provides a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. It attracts visitors from all over the world. Being the ethereal beauty it is, a lot of movies have been shot here too like- 'Guide' and 'Octopussy'.
