In a distance of 2 hours from Tuticorin, lies a serene little town Kalugumalai or also known as Kazhugumalai. This quaint little town is famous for its rock-cut temples and Jain Beds that makes it a cultural heritage site among tourist. According to historians, this was once the palace of Pandya Kings and also later on a preaching and worship place of Lord Mahavira. The interesting three temples are surrounded by hills that gives out a very unique scenic experience to capture, the hills are known as Araimalai or Thirumalai. Apart from temples, the town has an urn-burial cemetery and churches for tourist to explore.
