Lying 115 km from Tuticorin, Kalakkad Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the top wildlife destinations in Tamil Nadu. The evergreen forest sanctuary was recognized as a Tiger Reserve in the year of 1988 and came to also known as Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve. The sanctuary is situated in the Sothern Western Ghats and surrounded by mountains and lush dense green forest, the ideal time to visit will be from October to January. The Reserve serves as the kingdom of Tigers but along with it the sightings of Sloth Bear, Leopard, Mouse Deer, Python, Monitor Lizard, Hornbill, Bulbul, Bay Owl and 150 species of plants etc. are common in the grounds. The adventurers will enjoy trekking in the protected areas by prior permission.
