The World Tourism Organisation has selected Thenmala as one of the most premier eco-friendly projects. Thenmala has 10 Ecotourism spots that provides boating to leisure walks along with adventure sports like mountain biking and rock climbing. The Leisure Zone provides a beautiful sculpted garden finished with winding Pathways and boardwalk. Various species of Deer can be seen breeding in the Deer Rehabilitation Centre that is located nearby Thenmala. One can enjoy the rare display of flora and fauna that are truly exquisite and are found in the hilly ranges of Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts. This huge enchanting natural resort gives out an unforgettable journey in the mystical forest trails offering sweeping views of the neighboring hills. How to reach
Thenmala is a small town in the district of Kollam and doesn’t have an airport or railway station of its own. But it can be reached without any inconvenience due to its wide efficient road network that is connected with all the nearby cities.
How to Reach by Flight
The nearest airport to Thenmala is the Thiruvananthapuram Airport which is located just 72 km away from the city. The airport gets regular flights from all the major cities of India. You can hire a taxi from the airport or bus that runs regularly to Thenmala.
How to Reach by Train
The Shenkottah Railway Station is the nearest train station to reach Thenmala. At a distance of 66 km from Thenmala, it is however not directly connected with other cities. One can directly get down at Kollam junction and hire a taxi to reach Thenmala which is just 27 km away.
How to Reach by Bus
The Kerala State Transport Bus Services with few other private and deluxe buses runs regularly from Kollam, Kottarakkara, Trivandrum, and Punalur to Thenmala. One can also opt the government-run buses to reach Thenmala which runs frequently from the following cities.
How to Reach by Road
The equidistance from both Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam to Thenmala is approximately a two-hour drive and mostly selected as the best route to reach by car. Also, Thenmala is connected with all the major cities of Kerala via the road which is well maintained by the government and can choose for driving as an option to reach the fabulous eco-park.
How to travel within
Local taxis and tourist buses are available to move within the city. Although resorts and hotels mostly arrange the transportation of your convenience for sightseeing and visiting local areas.
Being an eco-friendly zone, the cuisine of Thenmala is mostly related to forest produce ingredients that are organic and light. Day 1: Reaching Thenmala by flight, it is just a few minutes journey to the centre of the town. Get checked into your hotel and head for your first destination in Thenmala. Go to the Children Park to explore theeco friendly park with all the swings and rides. Next, hire a cab that will take you to the Adventure zone, where you can undergo various wild activities like elevated walkways for trekking, etc. Get back to the city and have a hearty lunch, enjoying the local cuisine. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the shops nearby.
Day 2: Finishing breakfast, travel to the Leisure Zone, which is also an eco friendly forest garden. You can spend the rest of the day by going for trekking within the parks, and satiate your adventurous soul. By evening you can start on your journey back home.
