Chandra Bagwan Temple, as the name already points out to Moon it is clear that this temple is the integral part of the Navagrahas (Nine planets). The temple is tucked 25kms away in the north of Thanjavur and is protected by the trenches on both sides,according to the legends,Chandra( Moon) meditated and worshipped Lord Shiva on the account of which he was given many blessings. People from all around the world come here to see the beauty of this glorious example of architecture, like most of the temples Chandra Bagwan Temple  was also built during the reign of the Chola dynasty by the great king Raja Raja Chola. People with a weak moon position come here to worship and offer a special kind of offering by cooking rice with jaggery and then wrapping it in a piece of white clothing.The main deities of this temple are Lord Shiva and Goddess Perriniyaki amma. During the Purnima(Full moon) people gather at this temple in a population of thousands and the temple is beautifully decorated by the devotees and locals of this city.This temple is a favorute site for pilgrims and is frequently visited by the locals. The temple is open daily from morning 7:00 AM to evening 6:00 PM.
