Brahadeshwara is a temple in Thanjavur which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is also known with its two other names, Peruvudiyar Koil and Rajarajesevaram. It was built by Raja Raja Chola in somewhere between 1003 and 1010 AD, Brahadeshwara temple is an example of fully realized Dravidian architecture and is one of the largest  temple in South India.The main festival of this temple is shivaratri, as this temple is a part of UNESCO world heritage site which is known as the "Great living Chola Temples) it draws devotees and visitors from all around the world. The temple is major point of interest in Thanjavur.The inscriptions in the temple are in Tamil and Grantha scripts. The temple is open to all everyday from 6:00 AM onwards though the temple is usually busy on Thursdays. This temple is worth a visit to see the beautiful Dravidian architecture.
