Akkamahadevi Caves

#11 of 12 things to do in Srisailam

Named after Akka Mahadevi, a 12th-century philosopher in Karnataka, the Akkamahadevi caves are around 10 kilometers away from Srisailam.  Located across the Krishna River, this natural formation has been in existence for more than a million years. Visitors can reach the caves by sailing through the Krishna River. The cave holds a geological wonder of natural Rock Arch that stands without any support.  Akkamahadevi caves have a Shivlinga installed, which makes the caves attractive and special. It is known that Akka Mahadevi worshipped the natural formed Shivalinga in the depths of the cave. One has to crawl and then walk sideways to the very narrow end of the cave, to reach the Shivalinga. The caves are completely devoid of any light and at the extreme end where the Siva Linga is found, there is very little oxygen to breathe freely.

Timings: 9:30 AM to 12 Noon (Duration: 2.5 Hrs.). Cost: Adult - Rs 270, Child - Rs 170.

If you are planning to Visit Akkamadevi caves at first book your tickets before 10:00 am.
