Srisailam is a holy town of Lord Shiva on the banks of River Krishna in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. It is located in the Nallamala forest and is nearly 212 km from Hyderabad at 1354 ft above sea level. It is one of the twelve and second Jyotirlinga temples in India. Also, it is one of the most important pilgrimage centers of Lord Shiva. Srisailam is the only place in India where both a Jyotirlinga temple and a Shakti Pitham is in the same temple, which makes this place unique and powerful. The temple is very serene, where the architectural craft of man and scenic blessings of nature blends together beautifully.

The history of Srisailam begins with the first empire builder in South India and also the earliest rulers of Andhradesa, the Satavahanas. The period from AD 1325-1448 is the Golden Age of Srisailam when the city was ruled by the Reddy kings. The major renovations and constructions were taken up by Vijayanagara Rules. After the Moghal Emperors conquest, this region was given as Jagir to Nawabs of Kurnool and then passed on to Nawab of Hyderabad.
