Shivpuri is a small city that falls under Shivpuri district of Gwalior division under the state Madhya Pradesh in India. The city is a popular tourist place, mostly during the monsoon time due to its lush greenery and lakes and waterfalls. Shivpuri is surrounded by beautiful green landscape and thick dense forest. It was once the summer capital for the royal family of Scindia who were the ruler of Gwalior. The small city is located at a height of 478 meters above sea level and has a very refreshing cool air that makes it a peaceful holiday destination. The city has a significant historical root from the ruling time of Mughal and Hindu Emperors and their art and culture can be seen scattered around the city. Before the Scindias took over the place, it was under the rule of Kacchawaha Rajputs till 1804, who named the city after their God, Lord Shiva.

Shivpuri was once under the reign of Scindias, this beautiful city was kept s their summer place and surrounded by palaces and lakes, before that the Mughals use to hunt in the grounds of the dense forest of Shivpuri and capture elephants for their army. Every turn in Shivpuri is coated with history, art, and culture of rulers from centuries. The Madhav Villa Place or the Chattris can be visited to get the knowledge of the life of royals, the Rajputs, Mughals, and the Scindias. The George Castle, nestled deep in Madhav National Century, is an example of architecture that was built by Gwalior King in honor of British King George V on his visit. Shivpuri also has a very important historical memorial, the Tatya Tope Memorial, it was in the place, where the freedom fighter was hanged.

Shivpuri has very convenient connectivity with all close cities and places around India. The Roads are good well maintained by the state government to travel in Bus or personal/hired Car.

There are two major airports that are close to Shivpuri, Gwalior Airport is located at a distance of 116 km and Agra Airport is 195 km away. Both of the airports have regular flights from major cities of the country.

The nearest Railway Station to Shivpuri is Jhansi Junction, which gets a vast number of trains from all the cities of the country. It is about 100 km far away from Shivpuri, and a convenient means of transport for maximum.

Shivpuri Itinerary
Day 1: Landing in Gwalior Airport, hire a cab directly to Shivpuri, which is a journey of 2 hrs approx. get checked in the hotel of your choice and kick start your trip by visiting Chattri and Panihar, that is located nearby and can be easily traveled and back. Spend your night relishing the local M P cuisine and roaming the streets of Shivpuri.
Day 2: Hire a cab that will take you to Madhav National Park, for an early morning safari rides to see the tigers and other wildlife that roam around the beautiful landscape, finish your safari by going to the Karera Bird Sanctuary and boating in the Sakhya Sagar Lake. While going back take a detour to Madhav Villas Palace to see the magnificent royal house in its splendor. Finish your trip by shopping some memorials from the streets of Shivpuri and tasting the street foods from Central Road.
