The monument dedicated to the memory of the 26th Khasi Labour Corps, who had fought for the British in France during WWI. Motphran is also known as "Stone of France. The monument has a famous inscription written in Latin and it reads ‘Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori’ which means ‘It is sweet to die for one’s country. ‘The area surrounding Motphran is known as Iewduh (or Bara Bazaar), is the indigenous and largest market of the city.
