A beautiful village in East Khasi Hills in Northeastern India, Mawphlang is situated 25 kms from Shillong famous for its sacred groves. The name Mawphlang means Grassy Stone (Maw phlang) as it is one of the several monoliths of Khasi hills. The Mawphlang village is a land of legends, sacrifices and culture making it an excellent destination for the tourists to experience the true essence of Meghalaya. The village also houses the Khasi heritage village which was built to showcase the traditional lifestyle of Khasi Tribes. Earlier, the village was the centre of medical activity. It was also a hub for the Presbyterian Church of Wales missionary. Yet another famous attraction of Mawphlang is the sacred forest, home to a variety of flora and fauna. The forest is of immense spiritual importance to Khasis and it is a perfect destination for nature treks.
