Lady Hydari Park

#13 of 17 things to do in Shillong

One of the major tourist attractions of Meghalaya, the park is dedicated to the first lady of the province – Lady Hydari, the wife of the first governor of Assam. The garden is designed in Japanese garden style with the landscapes dotted with small ponds, rhododendron plants and willow trees. Situated at 3 kms from Shillong, the park along Ward’s lake is one of the best-maintained parks of the city. The garden is beautifully maintained with lush green lawns and flower beds, this park is an only place with a mini zoo which keeps animals and many bird species like Jackal, Himalayan black bear, porcupine Leopard, hornbill, kite etc. The park also houses a beautiful museum which highlights the rich biodiversity of the region. Even though the park is surrounded by concrete structures, it is an excellent getaway spot and a beautiful picnic spot for kids, locals and tourists.
