David Scott Trail

#3 of 17 things to do in Shillong

One of the most popular trekking routes of Meghalaya, the 16 kms trekking trails covers the beautiful terrain of the East Khasi hills with horse tracts and waterfalls. The entry point of the trail is a 20-minute walk from Shillong. It would generally take around 6 hours to cover the trail in normal pace with no longer stops. Crossing the stream after you have covered one-third of the trial would take a considerable time. But the views along the trail and worth all the trouble you take. This path was originally laid by David Scott, a British officer in the 1800s and it is still used to commute between Assam and Bangladesh.

Tips to note:

·        Since there is no reception for mobile phones along the trails, always remember to have a saved copy of the map on your phone.
·        Once you come across the stream, take your time and cross it. Avoid during trek during rainy seasons.
·        Always prefer good waterproof shoes.
·        If wearing sandals, watch out for small black leeches and take salt or a lighter to get them off.
