Local Cuisine
Shillong is a food lovers paradise. The Indo- Chinese cuisine is an important part of the Meghalayan food cuisine. The town of Shillong is home to mouth-watering chowmein and momos. If you enjoy devouring meats, this is the place to be. Mixing it up with something from a variety of cuisines (local, North Indian, Chinese, Bengali, Assamese), one can find plenty of food stalls and restaurants. The best of being in Shillong is the street food, you need not go to high-end restaurants to experience the authentic cuisine.
Must try foods when in Shillong include:

Shillong Itinerary
Day 1:
After an early breakfast from Guwahati to Shillong. On the way, drop by the Borapani Lake, the biggest artificial lake in the Meghalaya. You can reach Shillong in about 3.5 hours, right in time for a light brunch. Head straight to Cherrapunji and explore the caves and forests in and around the place. After lunch, head to the Mawlynnong village and spent the rest of the afternoon in the village. Head back to Shillong, explore the city at night and spent the night at the hotel.
Day 2:
Wake up early morning and head to the Shillong peak to witness the sunrise. You can visit the Elephant falls on the way back from Shillong. After the lunch, drive to the famous Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Culture. You can also visit the Shillong Catholic Cathedral nearby. Spent the evening at the Umiam Lake. Spent the night in Shillong.
Day 3:
After the morning breakfast, you can visit the Mawphlang Sacred forest on the way back you can also visit the ward's lake. Post lunch, you can roam around the shopping streets and then proceed to Lady Hydari Park for the evening. You can also visit the Chrysalis Art Gallery and the Butterfly museum post lunch. You can either head back directly to Guwahati or spent the night in Shillong and head back next day morning.
