Pilani

#4 of 7 things to do in Shekhawati

One of the most famous cities of the Shekhawati region, in the Jhunjhunu district is Pilani, commonly associated with the popular BITS Pilani institute. It is 200 km from Jaipur. Apart from the BITS campus, the Birla Science Musuem established in the 1950's is a great place to visit.

The timings for the museum are 9:15am-12:45pm in the morning and 3pm-5pm in the evening. The museum is not open on Mondays. The entry fee is just ₹10.

At the heart of the BITS campus is the Shradha temple. Worshipped in this temple is Goddess Saraswathi, the goddess of knowledge and learning. The temple was built in the 20th century and is appreciated for the architecture and the carvings on its exterior.

In the same Vidya Vihar campus of BITS is a charming park with a 400m canal circular in shape surrounding it. A Lord Shiva idol stands in the middle of the park.

Near the Birla hostel is Panchvati, a place where Lord Ram, his wife Sita and his brother Laxman are said to have stayed during their 14-year long exile. Now, the Birla foundation have adorned the area with statues of Lord Ram and his companions in the middle of the green trees and shrubs as an exhibition.
