How to reach

The nearest airport is in Kolkata, from where you can hire a taxi or rent a car to reach your destination. Train services are also available upto Digha, from where you will have to hire a car to travel to Shankarpur. Many private and government buses are available from Kolkata and also from other parts of West Bengal. 

How to Reach by Flight

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport(CCU) in Kolkata is the nearest airport at a distance of 185 kilometres from Shankarpur. Rental cars and taxis will help you reach Shankarpur from the airport.

How to Reach by Train

Train services upto Digha is available after which you have to hire a taxi or a car to cover up the 14 more kilometres to Shankarpur. One can also take trekkers, toto, auto, or van-rickshaws for this journey from the station to their hotel. Buses are also available from the railway station. The train jorney from Kolkata to Digha will roughly take 5 hours and 47 minutes.  

How to Reach by Bus

Shankarpur is a five hour bus journey from Kolkata. Many private and government buses freaquently ply on this route and are available from the Dharmatala bus stand in Kolkata and also from other parts of West Bengal. It will take you nearly half an hour to reach Shankarpur from the Digha bus stand.

How to Reach by Road

Shankarpur is a 4 hours and 18 minutes drive away from Kolkata and a 24 minutes drive from Digha. The best way to reach Shankarpur is by road.

How to travel within

Although buses, autos, autorickshaws, toto and taxis are available in and around the village, the perfect and most convenient way of travelling is on foot. This helps in truly enjoying the whole beach village experience.


A handful of hotels are there in Shankarpur, among which sea-facing ones are also available. One does not need to pre book their room as it is available almost throughout the year.


Large varieties of sea food are available on numerous beach restaurants, but the best option is to order food from the hotel you are staying at, since the quality of food is quite average and is not some thing unique. The place however is famous for many alcoholic drinks made with coconut water, including Coconut and Vodka, all of which are available on the beach.

Shankarpur Itinerary

There is not much to do apart from taking long walks along the beach or bathing in the sea and therefore one day is enough while visiting Shankarpur. It is ideal for those who want an isolated beach experience. One can just sit on the cement benches on the beach and enjoy the sunset or walk along the roads and learn about the village life of Shankarpur. With not many shops available for you to collect souvenirs for your loved ones, collecting and giving sea shells from the beach might be a good option.
