Sattal Tourism

Sattal, also known as Sat Tal, is a group of seven freshwater lakes that are interconnected and are located in the state of Uttarakhand in the district of Nainital and is located near Bhimtal. The word means “seven lakes” in Hindi. The interconnected freshwater lake is surrounded by different kinds of lush green trees like oak and pine and attracts a large number of migratory birds. The place remains thronged with tourists almost throughout the year; however, monsoons are not a preferable time to visit this area as it is prone to landslides. The lake has been protected by the locals and they have been successful in preventing the lake from getting polluted and have been able to maintain its beauty. The seven lakes that form the Sattal are Panna Tal or the Garud Tal, Nal-Damyanti Tal, Purna Tal, Sita Tal, Ram Tal, Laxman Tal, and Sukha Tal or Khurdariya Tal. Major tourist attractions around the lake are the town of Bhimtal, Bhowali, Naukuchia Tal, Ghorakhal, Golu Devata Temple, Nainital, butterfly museum, Subhash Dhara, Sattal Mission Estate and Methodist Ashram and Kayaking. Boating, fishing, trekking and bird watching are some of the activities that are organized for the locals as well as the tourists who visit the seven lakes. The weather of the place is pleasant almost throughout the year and it forms a photographer’s paradise. It is a true example of a paradise located amidst nature’s bounty, away from the crowd and chaos of the cities.
