The Eastern Gateway

#2 of 3 things to do in Sanchi

The four Gateways in Sanchi were built in 35 BC and they perfectly portrayed the distinctive aspects of Lord Buddha's life. The Eastern passage demonstrates the different phases of his voyage, beginning from his introduction to the world as a regal to his way of edification. Splendid embellishments and carvings with multifaceted subtleties can at present be found on these structures which unmistakably show how they have stood the trial of time. The back of the centre architrave demonstrates the Buddha being venerated by lions, bison, and different creatures. On the south substance of the northern column is demonstrated the fantasy of an elephant remaining on the moon, envisioned by the Buddha's mom Maya when he was imagined.
