A Cultural Heritage
Samalkot, Situated in the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, is a popular tourist destination for the devotees of Lord Shiv. Full of temples it is no less than a holy shrine for a lot of people. The atmosphere here is mostly religious, with the maximum people living here being devotees of Lord Shiv and Vishnu.
The Best time to visit the place is during Maha Shivratri when people are at their best and thus the city is at its best. The entire city seems to be decorated and people completely devoted to Lord Shiv. Here Lord Shiv along with his wife Goddess Parvati is worshipped the most.
In the recent past, the town has gone through a lot of urbanization and industrialisation, making the quality and standard of the lives of the people a lot better. It has also opened up employment opportunities for the youth. Lately, the educational facilities have also improved making the place a beautiful combination of culture and modernization.
Located along the banks of the mighty and revered river Godavari, a lot of the town's requirements are fulfilled by the river itself. Irrigation, electricity and water supply is facilitated by the river. It forms a part of Godavari Urban Development Authority.
Apart from the river also provides a lot of recreational opportunities. Also, having a river along the town keeps the temperature in check, recharges the underground water table and in general promotes the overall development of the place. This is why the river is worshipped here too like a mother.
