Saiha Tourism

Siaha is a small town situated in the north-eastern state of Mizoram, India. Located in the South Central part of the state, Siaha is acknowledged as the fastest-growing town in Mizoram, since the population has significantly expanded in the last ten years. The name Siaha is a combination of two words namely 'Sia' which stands for elephant and 'ha' meaning tooth - literally meaning an elephant's tooth. The gorgeous town has its own magic associated with it. Considered to be a haven for angling lovers, the place is located at an elevation of 729 meters above sea level. HISTORY OF SAIHA

Saiha initially came under the Chhimtuipui District. In 1998 when Chhimtuipui District was divided into two, Saiha District and Lawngtlai District. Most of the residents are Lakher (Mara) people, who also have an independent district council called ‘Mara Autonomous District Council’ under the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India since 1971.

How to Reach by Train

Located at a distance of 258 km from Saiha, Silchar is the nearest railway station.  

How to Reach by Bus

Regular buses are available for travelling to. The buses services from other major cities of the country are available in order to arrive at Saiha. 

How to Reach by Road

Saiha is well connected by roadways. It is located at a distance of 388 km from Aizawl via the NH54.

How to travel within

Rickshaws, taxis and cabs are available for travelling within the town.

FOOD: A paradise for non-vegetarians Saiha offers a delectable range of non-vegetarian delicacies like Smoked Pork, Chicken and more. One can discover quite a few roadside stalls in the town. One can also dine out at Aizwal. 

HOTELS: R.M Hotels, Circuit lodge, Lai Tlang Hotel, Lairam, Tourist Lodge, Lunglei, PWD resthouse etc are some of the places where one can find accommodation at reasonable rates.

AVAILABILITY OF ATMs: The town is not highly developed and has very few ATMs available. It is prudent to withdraw the cash from some other major towns like Aizwal.

ONE DAY ITINERARY

Reach Saiha via road early in the morning. Saiha being a small town, it doesn't have much to explore. Start the trip by heading towards the most exciting tourist destination, Palak wildlife sanctuary. Inside the sanctuary visit the Palak Dil lake. Return from Saiha in the evening.
