Ranthambhore Fort

#1 of 3 things to do in Ranthambore

Ranthambore is a formidable fort inside the Ranthambore National Park, spanning across the two hills Ran and Thambore. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ranthambore Fort was the seat of the Chauhan dynasty of rulers who ruled Rajasthan perched upon the hills. The fort is claimed to be built around the 10th century by then Maharajah Sapaldaksha but this fact is disputed by many.

There are three temples inside the fort devoted to the lords Ganesha, Shiva and Ramlalji. The fort also has Jain connections and a temple devoted to Jain lords is also present here. The best way to travel here would be in some form of jeeps for a personalised tour. The towers, dungeons and walls are a delight to explore, whether you are a history enthusiast or not. The fort also offers beautiful points to spot tigers and leopards from the safety and comfort the towers offer.
