CULTURE AND HISTORY OF PURULIA
One of the most magnificent districts in West Bengal, Purulia has a vibrant history and legacy to brag of. Encompassed by Bankura, Midnapore and Burdwan districts of West Bengal and some districts of Jharkhand state, the area has encountered a number of changes over the several years of its life. According to the Jaina Bhagavati-Sutra, Purulia has been surviving since the 5th century and was one of the 16 Mahajanapadas of its age. It is considered that Purulia was a part of the motherland known as Vajra-bhumi, in early times. However, not much is known about the pre-historic era of Purulia. Purulia achieved significance in 1765, in the British era when British East-India Company obtained the 'Diwani' of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa.

There is no direct bus between Kolkata and Purulia.
How to Reach by Road
You can take Royal Cruiser from Kolkata to Asansol then take a taxi from Asansol to Purulia. Other taxis and cabs are also available.

Travelling inside the town is mainly done by taxis and cabs.

ONE DAY ITINERARY
Reach Purulia early in the morning and after freshening up, head towards Murardi Lake. After that visit the Rakab forest. By the afternoon finish visiting Doldanga. Later head towards Ajodhaya and return in the evening. After some shopping leave for respective homes.
