Puri Tourism

Puri is one of the holiest pilgrimage towns in India. One would know it better when called as Jagannath Puri. The Lord of the Universe is housed here and is honored as the spiritual city. It is one of the Char dhams (“four abodes”) which includes Badrinath, Dwarka, and Rameswaram. It lies in the coastal strip on Orissa, which is 60 km from the city of Bhubaneshwar. The city of Puri is known for the divinity, magnificent architecture and for its historical significance. Located along the coast of Bay of Bengal it is one of the famous tourist destinations.

The Golden Triangle of Orissa comprises Bhubaneshwar, Konark, and Puri. All three cities have well-known tourists attractions. Traveling to Puri could fall under two categories – Religious and cultural travel and a relaxing vacation. All through the year, Puri is being visited by millions of people for its famous festivals out of which Rath Yatra being the most important one. There a lot of temples of importance and Puri Jagannath temple being paramount. It houses Lord Vishnu and it is the only temple of Vishnu where one would find his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra. There is a relation between the four dhams. It is believed locally that Lord Vishnu takes his dinner at Puri and his bath at Rameshwaram, spends the night at Dwarka and does penance at Badrinath.

Puri is also famous for its art and culture and has become a popular hangout for both domestic and foreign tourists. The city has many museums and libraries that hold the various artifacts and the reports of the history and culture of Puri. Its sandy beach along the coast mesmerizes the visitor. It has golden yellow sand which gives the name Golden Beach. The sunrise and the sunset add a scenic beauty. One will be captivated and leaves a sinless and peaceful mind.
