St. Mary's Church

#4 of 23 things to do in Pune

The timeless church building in the middle-western precinct of India also pronounced as The Mother Church of the Deccan by the Most Reverend Bishop Reginald Heber is located in the Pune Cantonment camp area. Built in 1825, the church has a blend of British as well as Indian compositional vogue in extension to the Gothic design of architecture. It is a stunning spot to be sensed and experienced with your loved ones. It is an ideal spot to reinvigorate and vacationing. Although the church is worshipped daily, the melodious carols and prayers on Sundays are soul nourishing. The church is home to the relics of Sir Robert Grant, the most reputable councillors of the Queen and also the Governor of Bombay and Sir Edward West, chief justice of Supreme Court at Bombay. Stained glass was adjusted at the shrine in 1874 in the tender remembrance of Lieutenant Trotter. In addition to this stained glass, the church also consists of regimental emblems. The chapel is adorned and worshipped on an everyday basis with the assistant of pipe organs, 130 years old.
