Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple

#4 of 16 things to do in Pondicherry

Sri Manakula Vinayagar, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, at a distance of 3 km from Pondicherry Bus Station is said to have been established almost 5 centuries ago. The temple is spread over an area of about 8000 sq. ft with outer mandapam, raja gopuram and outer enclosure. The idol of Lord Ganesha rests on a golden chariot for which around 7.5 kilograms gold was used. Every year during Dussehra, this chariot is carried out for procession. The temple also features an idol of a dancing Ganesh called Narthan Ganapathy. During Ganesh Chaturthi the temple seems like a celebration and a large number of devotees and tourist come to enjoy the festivities.
