Panchgani Tourism

Panchgani is a beautiful hill station that falls under Satara district in Maharashtra, India. Panchgani that literally means five hills was derived from the five mountains of Sahyadri mountain range. This picturesque hill station is a relief for tourist during summer time with its cool and pleasant weather and location where it stands close to 1,350 m above sea level. Culture

Panchgani was found during the reign of British Raj, who then sent Lord John Chesson to find a summer and retirement relief place for their officials. Although Mahabaleshwar was first decided to be the destination, it was canceled due to its inhabitation, later on, John Chesson founded this area that was surrounded by five villages in the Sahyadri Mountain Range, and named it Panchgani. The locals of the hill station consider John Chesson to be the founder of this breathtaking place. The locals of Panchgani are simple living, hospitable, agricultural people, the main languages you will find practicing there are Marathi, Hindi, and English. Falling in Maharashtra State, the town celebrates every Hindu Festival, though the major can be called as Ganesh Chaturthi. Famous for its strawberry plantation, during the month of March, the town can be seen celebrating the Annual Strawberry Festival that attracts a horde of local and tourist coming at the time.

How to Reach by Flight

There are two different Airports to reach Panchgani, the nearest would be Pune Airport, that is in a distance of 100 km and the Mumbai International Airport around 250 km. both of the airports get flights from all major cities of the country.

How to Reach by Train

Not having its own Railway Station, Pune serves as the nearest Railway Station for Panchgani, situated in a distance of 70 km. Major cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata etc. are linked with it.

How to Reach by Bus

Panchgani avails regular bus services from Pune and Mumbai. The State Transport and Private Buses are available in abundance for tourist to choose. Private Bus Companies gives buses that varies of ranges from Volvo Sleeper, super-fast deluxe to Deluxe AC.

How to Reach by Road

Around 5 hr. of a long-distance drive from the Mumbai – Pune expressway NH48, is the best experience one can have while traveling via Road while getting to Panchgani. The drive has the most beautiful picturesque scenes you will find on both sides of the road.

How to travel within

Hired Cabs and Personal Cars will be the best transport one can avail while moving within the hill station, but some tourist may also choose walking while roaming the countryside.

Panchgani Itinerary

Day 1: Landing in Pune Airport, hire a cab to Panchgani, which is a journey of 2 hrs approx. sit back and enjoy the picturesque breathtaking landscapes found on either side of the road. The lush green lands and the fresh pollution free air will immediately refresh you and get the feel for you to forget the polluted city clouds. Finally reaching the town get checked in the hotel and get freshen up and start your trip by visiting Rajpur Caves and Devrai Art Village. Finish your first day by shopping in the local shops and eating cuisines of your choice.

Day 2: Hire a cab that will take you to Mapro Garden and the different viewpoints surrounding in the area, each one has its unique feature to explore, spend your evening in Wai exploring the religious sites which can be called more than that. Forgetting the outside the world, step into another world of Hindu Architecture and Culture. The sculpture and paintings will show you the mythology of Indian history.
