Kali Temple

#2 of 3 things to do in Osian

Osian is blessed with a gorgeous temple dating back to the 8th century in devotion to goddess Kali. The Kali Temple is an aged temple of the town dedicated to Devi Kali who signifies strength and intensity and is said to be a form of Goddess Durga. The temple is certainly no match to the other splendidly composed constructions but the position of this temple makes it deserving a visit. Devi Kali is venerated by Hindus as the epitome of Shakti, the primordial feminine origin of life. Bengalis and Gujaratis, in particular, have a profuse festival of Devi Kali throughout Navratras (nine days) that concludes with the submersion of Devi's statues on the tenth day.
