The Other Varanasi
The beauty of this place lies in the way this small town is that the two valleys merge and giving way to the Narmada river to flow through. This gives the town the shape of an "Om". Omkareshwar derives its name from 'Omkara' which is another name for Lord Shiva. There are twelve Jyotirlingas across India and Omkareshwar is home for one of them. Thus making this place a famous destination for devotees and pilgrims.
There are two shrines laid here namely- Omkareshwar and Amarkareshwar. This town is also famous for its ancient architecture and scenic beauty. The town is surrounded by hills and mountain ranges. It is one of the most sacred towns in Madhya Pradesh and is made by the meeting of two rivers that is the Narmada and the Kaveri.
Land of Lord Shiva
Omkareshwar is located on the island of Mandhata and it includes 12 Jyotirlinga shrines of Shiva. The name "Omkareshwar" literally means "Lord of Omkara" and is the ideal pilgrimage spot for many people across the country. There are many places to visit around Omkareshwar. It has two lofty hills and divided by a valley. On the left of Omkareshwar temple, walk up to 287 steps to reach the 11th-century temple of Gaudi Somnath. Visit the sculpted Siddhanatha Temple as well. There are many accommodations available in and around Omkareshwar with proper amenities. The festivals here are celebrated with a lot of joy and colours.

The closest airport to Omkareshwar is Indore and Ujjain and the closest railway station is 12 km away. However, this railway line is not a major line and is not connected to the major cities. One of the major railway stations is Indore. Buses ply from Indore, Ujjain and Khandwa.

Omkareshwar doesn't have its own airport, however, the nearest airport is in Indore and Ujjain. They are 77km and 133 km away from Omkareshwar respectively.
How to Reach by Train
The nearest railway station is 12 km away, however it is not a major railway line. The only major railway station in Indore is 77 km away from the town.
How to Reach by Bus
After reaching Madhya Pradesh, one can avail buses from Ujjain, Indore or Khandwa.

How to travel within
The town has good local transport connections around and is easy to commute. There are buses, auto-rickshaws, boats, steamers or taxis that tourists can use to travel.
There is not much variety in the food here but being a religious place, it's mostly vegetarian. You can find food stalls around the town and some around the temple too. Some of the food consists of Sabzi-Puri, Samosas and Pakoras.
