India Gate

#5 of 25 things to do in New delhi

Located in the core of the Delhi city, India Gate stands tall as one of the national landmarks of the country. The 42-meter-high landmark is worked in similarity to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. The remembrance which was initially called the All India War Memorial celebrates around 70,000 troopers who lost their lives battling for the British Army amid the World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War of 1919. It is built up of red and pale sandstones alongside granite rock. Under the landmark, you can see an endless fire Amar Jawan Jyothi that pays tribute to the warriors who battled for the country and lost their lives in the Indo-Pak War in 1971.
