Shrinathji Temple

#4 of 6 things to do in Nathdwara

Shrinathji Temple, also known as Nand Bhavan or Nandalaya, is the main attraction of the town of Nathdwada, which is dedicated to the worship of Lord Krishna. The idol is of Lord Krishna, made up of black marble, lifting the Govardhan Hills in his hand. The temple is also called Shrinathji ki Haveli, the house of Shrinathji. The devotees of the temple celebrate certain festivals like Janmashtami, Holi, Diwali and Annakutta. It is believed that Rana Raj Singh brought this idol from Vrindavan to protect it from the rage of Aurangzeb. While moving from Vrindavan to another safe place, the wheels of the vehicle sank in the mud and thus couldn’t move any further. It was thus thought that the place has been chosen by Lord Krishna himself and the temple was constructed.
