The town of Nathdwada, which literally means “Gateway to Shrinathji”, is present in the state of Rajasthan, the land of forts and palaces, on the banks of the Banas River in the Rajsamand District. The main attraction of the town is the Shrinathji Temple, which is a temple of Krishna. The town has a steady supply of pilgrims every year and is considered as a sacred site by the Hindus. It is present at a distance of 48km north-east from the city of Udaipur.

The small town has a population of 37,007. Nathdwada is not only famous for the temples or as a pilgrimage but also for the Picchwai Paintings, Haweli music, ivory items, handmade terracotta at the Molela Terracotta Village as well as milk-made sweets. The Tantol Dam, also known as the Nand Samand Dam, also adds onto the beauty of this town, which is placed on the Aravali hills. There are a variety of festivals celebrated by the people of this town in which the entire town is filled with bright, beautiful colours and happy faces.

Paintings

There are several artists who resident near the Shrinathji Temple and are famous for their beautiful Pichwai paintings. These paintings are generally of the back-faced figure of Lord Krishna lifting Govardhana Hill as well as other legends from the life of Krishna. These paintings are generally done on clothes; however these are sometimes also done on paper.

It is situated in Mandiyana, Rajasthan and is owned by the Indian Railways. The Udaipur City Railway Station is present at a distance of 50km from the town of Nathdwada and the Mavli Junction is present at a distance of 30km.

Nathdwada can be reached by bus services that are available from Udaipur and also from certain parts of Gujrat. Nathdwada is considered as a foodie’s paradise. The town is filled with road-side food stalls. The most famous delicacies f the town are Khaman, Kand, Jalebi, Phaphda. Masala tea is also found in almost every corner of the town. Thandai, made of pure milk and dry fruits, and  Jeera golis, used as mouth freshner by the locals, are also popular in this town. The people in the town of Nathdwada celebrate the Rath Yatra, Rose festival, Jhulana-yatra and Janmastami, however the most celebrated festival in the town is Annakutta festival.

Nathdwara Itinerary

Day 1-After reaching the airport, leave for the hotel. After breakfast proceed towards Shrinathji Temple and roam around the temple for the Pichwai paintings.

Day 2- After breakfast leave for the Dwarkadheesh Temple, Charbhuja Temple and Eklingji Temple. After these, you can come back to the hotel or visit the local markets.

Day 3- Go to the Tantol Dam to watch sunrise. Come back to the hotel for breakfast and then leave for Molela Terracotta Village. After this leave for the city of Udaipur, which is at a distance of 54km.
