Narkanda is a town located in Shimla district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is situated at an elevation of 2708 meters on the Hindustan Tibet Road (On the National Highway 22) in Himachal Pradesh, India. It is roughly 65 km away from Shimla and enclosed by the Shivalik Range that compass a comprehensive section of Himachal Pradesh. Narkanda has a major historical significance which dates back to the days of the Mahabharata. According to the legends the Pandavas lived in the foothills of this hamlet while they were exiled. In modern history, the village was controlled by Sankar Varma, the ruler of Kashmir, which supplanted the incursion by Muhammad Ghazni. The region was then controlled by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Rajput ruler. Later, the region came under the Mughal rule, till it was attacked by The Gorkhas, under the administration of Amar Singh Thapa, in 1768. In the late 18th century, the Anglo-Gorkha war drove to the collapse of the Gorkhas and the state falling under British rule. Narkanda consequently came under the Shimla district. In contemporary times, the destiny of Narkanda received a huge leap, when Mr Satyanand Stokes introduced the apple to the city. The apple is a principal source of gaining subsistence for the residents of Narkanda. Presently, the cherry market is also thriving at a large velocity in this city, augmenting to the trading prosperity of the state. Now, Narkanda is likewise commonly distinguished for skiing.

Arrive early in the morning, and after grabbing some supplementary breakfast leave for Hatu Peak, which is the second highest peak in Shimla. After that have the best skiing experience at Narkanda. After that visit Mahamaya temple. Further head towards Tannu Jubbar Lake. In the evening leave for city shopping and grab some delightful goodies. Leave for your respective homes at night.
