Phanigiri Buddhist Site

#5 of 11 things to do in Nalgonda

Phanigiri is located about 52 km from Nalgonda is considered as one of the prominent Buddhist sites. It stands as a landmark among other sites that form the circuit of Buddhist practice from the times of history. This place is a complete Buddhist complex with a magnificent Stupa and halls that complement it within the boundaries.

There are two large footprints embarked here which is believed to be that of Lord Buddha himself. It is presumed that this place housed the Buddhist monks during its time of active use, whose presence can be derived from the structures of Viharas that served as the dwelling for them. They sit on top of a hill named as Serpent's Hood Hill which is believed to have been named after the physical form that the hill appears to be in.
