The Naini Lake which flows through the centre of the city is a popular spot for various activities like paddle boating and row boating. Other lakes that you can visit are the Sariyatal Lake, Bhimtal Lake, and Khurpatal Lake. Owing to its gorgeous landscape, Nainital has quite a few hilltops that offer extraordinary vistas of the city. The Naina Peak, Tiffin Top, Snow View Point and the Governor’s house are some of the famous destinations in Nainital.

How to Reach by Flight

Being a hill station, Nainital does not have direct air connectivity. The nearest airport is located at Pantnagar, which lies at a distance of 65 kilometres from Nainital. The second nearest airport is in New Delhi which is approximately 290 kilometres away from the central town in Nainital. Delhi airport is well-connected to different cities across the globe.

How to Reach by Train

The nearest railway station is located at a distance of 34 kilometres at Kathgodham, at the foothills of the Kumaon hills. Kathgodam railway station enjoys good connectivity to important places such as Delhi, Lucknow and Howrah.

How to Reach by Bus

Nainital enjoys excellent bus connectivity to important destinations in North India. Several tour operators operate daily bus service from New Delhi to Nainital, which includes options like air-conditioned, non-air-conditioned, sleeper and Volvo buses

How to Reach by Road

Nainital is well-linked to all nearby places by a network of well-constructed roads, including National Highway 87, which links it to Rudrapur and Rampur. A 6 to 7-hour drive from New Delhi, Nainital can easily be accessed by road, with a few halts en route.

How to travel within

The artery of Nainital remains the Mall with restaurants, hotels and shops which is best enjoyed by walking around the twon.The best way to go around the town from one end to the other is by cycle rickshaws. The taxis are also availble throughout the day for sightseeing tours.

Local Cuisine

Nainital’s traditional cuisine is a must try for food lovers. Just like any other place Nainital has an authentic variety of dishes with the nice aroma, delicious taste and mouth-watering presentation. Rice and roti complimented with different types of Chutneys is an integral part of Nainital’s Cuisine.

Some of the must try’s when in Nainital are:

·        Ras – semi-liquid preparation from different kinds of Dals,
·        Baadi - prepared from a mixture of toor, moong, and channa dal taken with chutney,
·        Bhatt ki Churkani – made with rice paste and black bhatt,
·        Aloo Ke Gutke - a spicy dish prepared with boiled potatoes, coriander leaves, and whole red chillies,
·        Arsa – a dessert made of jaggery, rice, and mustard oil, and
·        Gulgula - a sweet dish prepared from wheat flour and jaggery.

Nainital Itinerary

Day 1

Start from Delhi to Nainital. The journey will take almost 7 hours. once you reach Nainital, check in to the hotel. In the evening, go for a walk around the Naini Lake and the Mall road. Spent the night in the hotel.

Day 2

After breakfast, Bhim Tal, Sat Tal, Naukuchia Tal, Snow point Mall road, Boating Club, Cable Car Ride & Thandi Sadak. Head to Dorothy's seat for Lunch. Spent rest of the evening at Naina Devi temple followed by a walk to Governor's house and then around the Golf course. Spent rest of the evening shopping in the mall road.

Day 3

The day can be spent trekking up to the Naini Peak and spending your day enjoying the nature and mesmerizing views of the town from the peak.
