City of Palaces
Mysore ( also known as Mysuru ) is a city in Karnataka. It is the cultural capital and second most important city of Karnataka. Mysore is a very popular weekend getaway from Bangalore and Kerala. It is unavoidable in Karnataka Tourism. Mysore is known for its palaces, gardens and annual celebrations of Dusshera. It is well connected with other cities in India via road and railways.
Dasshera (or Dusera ) is a 10 day festival in Karnataka celebrated in September/October. The palace will be lit by more than 100,000 lights and cultural events will be organized during this period.

It is a 1km long market with stalls of everything from colors to fruits.

Hotels and Resorts
Finding accommodation in Mysore will not be difficult as there are abundant hotels and resorts. However, the best ones will be booked during the peak seasons, booking in advance is recommended. There are few hostel providers/chains who operate here if you are looking for cheaper accommodation options.
Food and Drinks
Popular food items are Mysore Pak ( a sweet) . and Mysore Masala Dosa. There are many restaurants which serve South Indian, North Indian and Chinese cuisine. There may not be many restaurants which open early in the morning.
Liquor laws are very liberal here, you can easily find wine shops which sells many international and domestic brands. There are around a dozen pubs and numerous bars. There is no nightlife here, most of the shops will be closed by around 10:00 pm.
Be alert if you plan to wander in the night as the city is usually deserted after 10:00 pm.
People are very friendly here, still be cautious.
Beware of autorickshaw drivers who overcharge.
