Kodachadri Hills is an evergreen forest which forms a backdrop to the town of Maravanthe. It is located at an altitude of 4406 ft above the sea level. It is one of the highest peaks in Western Ghats, being the 13th highest peak of Karnataka, and has a dense forest. It has been declared as a natural heritage site by the Government of Karnataka.The name has been derived from “Kodacha” or “Kodashi” which means Kutaja flowers and “Adri” which means mountains. It is located in the middle of Mookambika National Park and is considered as a biodiversity hotspot. There are certain endangered species present in the forest. There are a variety of animals present like Indian leopard, Indian tiger, Indian elephant, hyena, Indian rock python etc.
