Malshej Ghat Tourism

A picturesque hill spot, located in the Western Ghats in Pune district of Maharashtra, Malshej Ghat. Known for its mountain passes that crossways with the Western Ghats, it has got the breathtaking views of the valley, the stupendous Malshej Hills and picturesque waterfalls. At an altitude of 700 m, Malshej Ghat is one of the top weekend getaways near Pune & Mumbai and also one of the prime places to experience Maharashtra Tourism in summer. The hill station of Malshej Ghat is managed by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation.

 

Malshej Ghat is popular among hikers, trekkers, and nature lovers. What is so exciting about this Ghat? The answer to this question is that it sets itself apart from its contemporary competitors. It has several rivers that cut through it, the many historic forts that offer a window into our rich cultural history. With the surfeit of waterfalls with fog during the 4 months of rain, it attracts a huge crowd of visitors to enjoy nature.

 

It also offers a huge variety of flora and fauna. A perfect place for a vivid variety of tourists. Birdwatchers and Nature lovers would not miss the migratory birds and the Flamingos with a scenic background of the shimmering river and the woody terrains. Architecture enthusiasts love to explore the Ajoba Hill Fort, the Jivdhan Chavand Fort, and the iconic Harishchandragad Fort. The Shivneri Fort is a major attraction in this region famous for being the birthplace of the legendary Maratha ruler, King Shivaji. The trekkers and hikers could get indulged themselves with this amazing spot. The places also house animals like the Bengal Tiger, Leopard, rabbits etc.

There are very fewer restaurants, it is advised to carry food.

There is a resort operated by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation and a few other private resorts.Madh is the nearest village with accommodation facilities.

How to reach

The nearest airport in Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai. Malshej do not have a railway station.

How to Reach by Flight

Mumbai (BOM) is the nearest airport (125km). Pune airport can also be used to reach Malshej.

How to Reach by Train

Kalyan Junction is the nearest railway station but it is at a distance of 85km.

How to Reach by Bus

Buses ply between Malshej and Mumbai, Pune and Thane. Bus journey will take around 3-4 hours.

How to Reach by Road

Malshej is at a distance of 125km from Mumbai which will take around 3 hours to reach.
