Lavasa is a city which is still being developed and it falls in the Mulshi Valley in the district of Pune in the state of Maharashtra. It is being built based on the Italian town, Portofino. The city is being built by Hindustan Construction Company and covers an area of around 25000 acres. The project has faced several oppositions for procurement of land, violating the environmental laws, as was claimed by the Indian Environment and Forest Ministry in 2010, and for acquiring loans through political corruption. However despite of all the challenges and the claims, the city has been successful in attracting a lot of tourists because of its beauty and the calm and pleasant environment and atmosphere that the city provides. Away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby busy cities like Pune and Mumbai, the hill station has been and is emerging as one of the greatest tourist spots in the state of Maharashtra.
