Lavasa Tourism

Lavasa is a city which is still being developed and it falls in the Mulshi Valley in the district of Pune in the state of Maharashtra. It is being built based on the Italian town, Portofino. The city is being built by Hindustan Construction Company and covers an area of around 25000 acres. The project has faced several oppositions for procurement of land, violating the environmental laws, as was claimed by the Indian Environment and Forest Ministry in 2010, and for acquiring loans through political corruption. However despite of all the challenges and the claims, the city has been successful in attracting a lot of tourists because of its beauty and the calm and pleasant environment and atmosphere that the city provides. Away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby busy cities like Pune and Mumbai, the hill station has been and is emerging as one of the greatest tourist spots in the state of Maharashtra. It is a private city and is considered to be the newest hill station in the country that spreads over 7 hills. It provides a picturesque view to the tourists and is away from the chaos of the cities.

Food                                                                    

Lavasa has a wide variety of food dishes starting from Chinese to street food to American dishes. The place also provides local delicacies like Maharashtrian thalis. There area number of roadside stalls that offer snacks and beverages. The main dishes of the state are Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav, Puran Poli, Misal Pav, Ragda Pattice, Bharli Vangi, Poha, Sabudana Khichdi, Rassa, Pithla Bhakri, Aamti, Bhelpuri, Basundi, Aamrus and Kadhi. Among the sweet dishes are Modak and Sreekhand. Among the juices there are Sol Kadhi and Kairi Cha Panha.

How to reach

Lavasa does not have an airport of its own or a railway station. However since it is emerging as a tourist hotspot it is connected to other cities by roads and buses.

How to Reach by Flight

Lavasa does not have an airport of its own. The nearest airport is at Pune, New Pune International Airport, which is located at a distance of around 65 km from the place. Another airport which is close to Lavasa is Mumbai Airport, which is located at a distance of around 193 km from the hill station.

How to Reach by Train

The place does not have a railway station of its own. The nearest railway station is the Pune Junction, which is located at a distance of around 61 km from the city of Lavasa.

How to Reach by Bus

State-run buses or those owned by private agencies are present that connects the place to areas like Mumbai, Pune etc. There are a variety of buses, ranging from affordable to quite expensive ones.

How to Reach by Road

Since the city does not have an airport or a railway station, however it is an emerging tourist spot thus it has very good road connectivity to nearby areas like Mumbai, Pune, Panjim etc. In addition to buses, shared taxis and cabs are also available.

People can book cabs or hire a cab and move from one place to the other. Since the weather is pleasant most of the time and it is a beautiful hill station, walking can also be an option.

Lavasa has been exposed to various cultures and has people from various states and cities. The city celebrates festivals like Holi, Diwali, Christmas, Eid and Guruparab. The place is also popular for Lavasa Women’s Drive, a car rally that is held every year in the month of February.
