Malana

#10 of 17 things to do in Kullu

India is truly diverse, not only culturally but also terrestrially and geographically, otherwise what else could explain the existence of a plateau in an extensive mountainous region? Malana, a small village in Kullu is located on a plateau, making it really unique in the state of Himachal Pradesh. This solitary village in the alongside the Malana river, commonly known as Malana Nala, a side valley of the Parvati Valley, located to the north-east of Kullu Valley, seems to be completely isolated from the rest of the world. Naturally gifted, this small village is not like any other village of the country, particularly those which have a weak ruling party and are struggling with governmental schemes, instead this village of Malana has its own democracy and celebrates it happily, with a belief of being the oldest republic in the world.

The villagers have a lot of belief in their Jamblu Devta, who is their deity. The whole administration of the village is under his control, with the help of a village council. It is quite surprising to see such a wonderful management system in such an isolated area to be so socially developed.
