Shri Mahalaxmi Jain temple is the most important temple in Kolhapur and is visited by a large number of devotees and tourists every year. It is located on the banks of Panchganga River. It consists of deities of Mahalakshmi and Jain Tirthankars. The main festivals celebrated in this temple are Navaratri and Mahavir jayanti. Kirnotsav is also celebrated in this temple, when the ray (kiran) of the sun directly falls on the idol. The idol of the temple is made of gemstone and is 3 feet tall with a stone lion standing behind the statue.
