Kodaikanal has a lot of accommodation options ranging from lodges, hostels to luxury resorts inside the plantations. Finding accommodation in the peak season is difficult as it is a popular school/college trip destination in South India. It is advised to book online in advance.

There are many restaurants in Kodai which serve lip smacking cuisines. Most of the restaurants serve south Indian cuisine.

Few resorts and hotels have attached bar. There is a wine shop near the Kodai bus stand which sells Indian liquor.

How to Reach by Flight

Located around 120 km away, Madurai Airport serves as the nearest airport to Kodaikanal. Daily flights from Chennai, Bangalore, Trichy and Mumbai arrive here. One can take a cab or local train to reach Kodaikanal from the airport. Flights from Trichy and Coimbatore are also available to reach Kodaikanal.

How to Reach by Train

Kodai Road, situated around 80 km away from the main town of Kodaikanal, is the nearest railway station. Mostly trains from Madurai and Trichy run to Kodai Road. Another nearest and important station is Coimbatore Railway Station which connects kodaikanal to all the other important cities.

How to Reach by Bus

Regular bus services are available from the cities of Chennai, Coimbatore, Pondicherry, Madurai, Thiruchirapalli, Palani, Dindigul and Bangalore. State and private buses also run in this route.

 

How to Reach by Road

Kodaikanal is easily accessible by road from Chennai (439 kilometres) and Bangalore (305 kilometres). It’s only about 3.5 hours away from Madurai.

Rickshaws and cabs are available to travel within Kodaikanal. 

Satefy Tips

Leeches are common in hilly regions, carry table salt to get rid of them.

There will be a lot of monkeys near some tourist spots, they can be unpredictable.
