Kailasanathar Temple

#1 of 8 things to do in Kanchipuram

This temple is locally known as the sand temple as it is made almost entirely out of sandstone. This houses a giant 10 feet idol of Lord Shiva in the Shivalinga form. A circular pathway goes around the idol of Kailasanthar which is believed to signify ones entrance into life and exit into paradise as a journey. Circling the idol on this path guarantees moksha, believe Hindus.

There are about 60 shrines inside the temple premises and the Dravidian Architecture is something to marvel over.
