Devarajaswami Temple

#2 of 8 things to do in Kanchipuram

Also known as the Varadharaja Perumal temple or Perumal Koil, this temple is one of the most interesting attractions of Kanchipuram. It houses a 100-pillared hall with sculptures that put to display the architectural grandeur of the Vijayanagara Kings. The temple is considered to be one of the many Divya Desams, the 108 temples of Lord Vishnu that were visited by the 12 Tamil saints.

The major attraction of the temple is the large tank present inside the premises. Inside the tank is immersed a wooden idol of Lord Vishnu. The tank is emptied every 40 years and during this time the idol is open for Darshan for a period of 48 days only. The next Darshan of Perumal will be in July 2019.
