The word 'Ita' means brick in Ahom language and Ita fort literally means a castle made of bricks. Located in Papum Pare district, Ita Fort is a very ancient marvel, famous among many tourists. It is one of the most historical sites of the state of Arunachal Pradesh. It was built in the early 14th-15th century. The fort is in of an irregular shape and the architecture still stands out. Over so many years, the structure has worn off however, the bricks still remain strong. The total brickwork is of 16,200 cubic metre lengths. There are three different entrance at three different sides of this fort, in the direction of west, east and south.
