Itanagar has a view of the snow-capped Himalayas on one side and the beautiful Brahmaputra plains on the other. It has a mesmerizing and breathtaking view of the hills and the greenery around. 

It was recently opened to the tourists and the heritage and the tribal culture still remains intact and proper. These are decades and centuries old and thus makes it valuable. There are many tourist attractions in Itanagar, both pilgrimage and historic. The Ita Fort is very famous and one of the oldest forts in the country. The Ganga lake or Gyakar Sinyi, as called locally, is another beautiful tourist attraction to visit. The Museum is very famous for experiencing local and tribal lifestyle and culture. Various handicraft artefacts are available here. One can also see how these are usually made. Buddha Vihar consecrated by the Dalai Lama is another must visit place in Itanagar.  The weather in Itanagar stays the same throughout the year and is hence always pleasant. Itanagar is indeed nature's paradise.

Land of Culture and History

Itanagar is a mix of archaeological sites with a lot of historical significance and some very up-to-date resources due to Globalization. There are also a lot of places of great socio-cultural significance. Some of the biggest tourist attraction include Ita Fort, Geykar Sinyik or Ganga Lake, Indira Gandhi Park etc.  There are many things to do in Itanagar, starting from exploring the magnificent landscape to the many adventure sports to explore from. One can choose from a list of sports or can opt for a more relaxing and comfortable holiday with hot springs, vineyards and many cultural attractions. Arunachal Pradesh is a state of 26 tribes in total. Some of the major tribes are Adi, Galo, Aka, Apatani, Nyishi, Tagins, Bori, and Bokar etc. The sun and moon are the important deities that these tribes worship. There are also many festivals celebrated in this place and is thus culturally very strong. 


How to reach

Itanagar has good connectivity with other major cities only by roadways. Regular bus services ply to and fro the city of Itanagar. There are buses being operated both by private and government owners.  The nearest airport is 70 km away from Itanagar, Lilabari airport, connecting Itanagar to other major cities in the country.

How to Reach by Flight

Pawan Hans has helicopter services between Guwahati and Itanagar thrice a week. The nearest airport is 70 km away, Lilabari airport. Regular flights operate to and from here.

How to Reach by Train

 The nearest railway station is in North Lakhimpur which is around 65 km away. Other than this there is no direct railway connectivity to the city of Itanagar. One can hire a taxi after reaching the station to cover the distance till Itanagar.

How to Reach by Bus

Bus services from Guwahati to Itanagar is very good. One can easily find buses, local or private buses from the neighbouring cities to reach Itanagar. Arunachal State transport connects Itanagar with other North East cities in India. Itanagar is connected to NH 52A with the rest of the country.

How to travel within

Cabs are the most convenient way of travelling to and fro in Itanagar. Your hotel can always book a cab for you. 

Food of Itanagar

The Tibetian influence on the food is very much visible in Itanagar. The main elements in the food here are rice, fish, maize, local herbs, bamboo shoots, green leafy vegetables and meat. The Tibetian cuisine here is a must try. Especially the ones that are locally made and not in a restaurant. The freshly baked brown bread in the city bakeries should not be missed out. There are restaurants that offer Indian food, Chinese and Punjabi food as well.
