Honnemaradu is a small village, situated on the backwaters of the river Sharavathi. It derives its name from the 'Honne' tree. However, its name translates to 'Golden Lake'. Its main highlight is the Honnemaradu Reservoir, which also has a small island in the middle. Being such an ideal spot, it attracts a lot of campers, especially from the nearby places, as still a lot of people outside Karnataka don't know about the existence of this place.
Honnemaradu is visited mostly by nature lovers who wish to be connected to nature for a while without any interruptions. It does the job perfectly, as the place is quite small and has no distractions whatsoever.

Though kayaking is not allowed without the supervision of a guide, it can be definitely enjoyed after following certain rules.
It is also quite a paradise for bird watchers, as, near the reservoir, there are a lot of birds to watch out for.
In short, it is quite an exciting place for people who just want to spend some time thinking about stuff and want to get back to a simple lifestyle for some time.
Honnemaradu is more of a village, which makes the options to reach here very limited. It can be reached by first arriving at major cities near it.
The nearest airport is in Mangalore, around 200 kms away. From there, buses ply to reach Honnemaradu.
The nearest railway station is in Shimoga, being 100 kms away. Again, from there a bus can be taken.
Buses ply to Honnemaradu regularly from Mangalore, Shimoga and Sagar.
Around 400 kms from Bangalore, a cab/taxi can be hired from neighbouring major cities.
No such local transport system prevails. If a private car was hired to reach here, it can be used to travel around.
There are not many fooding and lodging options available here as it is quite a small place. The nearest place o stay will be in Sagar, with better options and all basic facilities. Apart from living, there are not many shopping options in Honnemaradu either.
