Tucked into the Pir Panjal Ranges in the Himalayas, at an altitude of 2650m, Gulmarg is a popular skiing destination in Jammu & Kashmir. Situated at distance of 56km from Srinagar, Gulmarg is a magnificent valley, with snow clad pine and fir tree belts in the winters and with beautiful wildflower covered meadows during the spring and summer. Known for its scenic beauty, Gulmarg is a beautiful town without crowds like Manali and Shimla making it an excellent spot for rejuvenation. How to reach

Gulmarg is accessible directly by road. you might need to take a cab or bus once you plan to travel to Gulmarg by air or rail.

How to Reach by Flight

The nearest airport to Gulmarg is in Srinagar which is 56 kilometres away. It is a domestic airport and is well connected to major cities in India by regular flights from Delhi, Mumbai and Amritsar.

How to Reach by Train

Jammu is the nearest railway station, at a distance of 290 kilometres. Jammu railway station is well connected to the most of the railheads in major Indian cities. Some of the popular trains are Jammu Rajdhani, Himgiri Express, Swarak Express, Andaman Express and Himsagar Express which connects the farthest railhead in Trivandrum city.

How to Reach by Bus

Gulmarg is well-connected with regular bus services from Srinagar, Sonmarg and other neighbouring towns in Kashmir. You can choose from regular, deluxe and luxury buses operated by both government and private companies.

How to Reach by Road

Gulmarg is 57 kilometres from Srinagar and although it can be reached in 1-2 hours, it takes more time due to the winding high altitude roads.

How to travel within

You can get around all the places in Gulmarg either on foot or by hiring a pony. Local rickshaws are also available for getting to some places.

Local Cuisine

The typical cuisine of Gulmarg is rice based with local specialities like Dum Aloo and Chaman with fried paneer in the thick sauce. Rogan Josh, meatballs in gravy, is a very famous non-vegetarian dish throughout Kashmir. A trip to Gulmarg is incomplete without tasting the Kashmiri Tea called Kahwa.

Gulmarg Itinerary

Day1
After reaching Gulmarg, head to Cable station. The Cable car from Gulmarg to Kongdori will take you up to an altitude of 3099.6 m. After the lunch at Kongdori, head to Apharwat by the phase two in Gondola ride. On the way, you will pass through the beautiful Khilanmarg. Once you reach Apharwat, you can enjoy the beauty of Apharwat peak and the Alpather Lake. After this, you can go back to the hotel via Gondola and take rest.


Day 2
If you are interested in adventures, this day can be spent skiing. Head to Apharwat, Khilanmar or Kondgdori peak for skiing. There is no need to worry even if you are just a beginner, there are a lot of qualified skiing instructors to help you out. If not up for skiing, you can always opt out for trekking. You can trek from Gulmarg to Khilanmarg (5kms), Khilanmarg to Alpather Lake (8 km) etc. After the hectic day of skiing or trekking, you can rest for the day back in the hotel.


Day 3
Start early morning and then visit the Maharani temple. After this, you can visit the St. Mary's Church followed by Baba Reshi's Tomb. head for lunch at any of the famous restaurants in Gulmarg. After the lunch, you can head to Kanchenjunga Museum followed by a visit to the Governor's house. You can spend the evening by taking a stroll around the Golf course and then heading back to the hotel.
